My name is James Black; I am 16 years young, I am hoping to become a farrier in the future and am currently I am fitting in my riding around being at college.
I am based in Nottinghamshire and I qualified for the 2016 Mitsubishi Motors Cup at Badminton Horse Trials locally at Shelford Manor (2) in the Mitsubishi Motors Regional Final. We won the BE100 Regional Final with a 28 dressage then ended the season at Norton Disney (2) on another high coming fourth in the BE100 Regional Final.
I am riding Capadust, known as ‘Dev’, a 10 year old Irish gelding. Dev is by the Saddler’s Wells sired thoroughbred Dushyantor, Saddler’s Wells is an extremely successful stallion in racing with only one other horse having sired more Group 1 winners than him. Dev has now had to have his holiday cut short as he was bored and decided to jump out of his field for fun! So back to work for him, me and my mum!
2015 was a very successful year for me, as a member of the Blankney Hunt Branch Pony Club I was also able to pass my B test on the Tuesday (18th August 2015); then qualified for Mitsubishi Motors Cup on the Wednesday. I also then finished the week with my GCSE exam results on the Thursday, which then secured my place at Morton Morrell in Warwickshire doing the farrier access course, hoping it will lead me to an apprenticeship.
So far Dev has had his routine of physiotherapy sessions with Stef Watts who will be coming over the next few months as part of his fitness therapy. I have also started having my dressage lessons with Jake Fowler at Wellow Park Stables and my show jumping lessons with Kirsty Hardstaff in Collingham.
So far the weather is causing us a little hindrance, but my mum has things planned for getting him fit… Anyhow got to go now as I have another assignment for college to complete! So I will be back in touch soon with more of an update on our progress towards Mitsubishi Motors Cup at Badminton 2016.
