This weekend Skipton (2) Horse Trials in North Yorkshire kicked off both the BE90 and BE100 Mitsubishi Motors Regional Finals for qualification to the 2019 Mitsubishi Motors Cup.
Next year the Mitsubishi Motors Cup will celebrate its 10th anniversary of running at the iconic Badminton Estate in Gloucestershire as it takes place on the two days preceding the CCI4* horse trials on 30th April – 1st May 2019.
Samantha Jimmison and Inola Smith’s Upsalls Lorna picked up their place to next year’s championships with a win in the BE100 Mitsubishi Motors Regional Final thanks to their dressage score of 25.8 penalties and nothing to add from the jumping phases. No stranger to the special atmosphere that the Mitsubishi Motors Cup, Samantha has competed previously in the BE100 final in 2017 and the BE90 in 2016.
Collecting his first qualification to the Mitsubishi Motors Cup; Chris Fairs’ impressive finishing score of 16.8 penalties secured him the win – and qualification – in the BE90 section I on his own eight year old gelding Whinchat. Ellis Morton put in a similarly brilliant dressage score in section J of the BE90 to win on her dressage score of 16.5 with Della Morton’s DHI Sambuca.
Other notable qualifiers include Laura Greenhalgh who came third in the Mitsubishi Motors Regional Final BE90 section J on Sarah Reeve’s Stanhopes Travelling Man; the 2019 Mitsubishi Motors Cup would make it their third time there as a combination having competed in 2016 and again in 2018 where they placed 11th. Carly Woolley who gained a top 20 position at the 2018 Mitsubishi Motors Cup on Grand Illusion collected her qualification in the BE90 after coming second in section I.
Thanks to generous title sponsor Mitsubishi Motors, the winner of each Mitsubishi Motors Cup section will drive away a brand new Mitsubishi Motors vehicle for one year along with prize money, rosettes and rugs, and enjoy the thrill of competing on the same site as the international CCI4*, Mitsubishi Motors Badminton Horse Trials next year.
