The first day of the 2019 Mitsubishi Motors Cup saw some incredible scores in both the BE90 and BE100 Championship, with less than 4.3 penalties separating the top ten in the BE100 and 5.8 in the BE90.
In the BE100, 22 year old Alana Sparrow from Nutley, East Sussex, leads the way on a score of 25.1 penalties. Riding Mr Rasshied Din’s 13 year old mare Angels Spirit, this is the yard manager’s fourth year at the Mitsubishi Motors Cup and isn’t the first time she has been in pole position after the first day of dressage, having done so in 2016 on Fashion Rocks.
Emma Melhuish (pictured) holds second place just 0.5 of a penalty behind the leaders on a score of 25.6 with her own 10 year old gelding Woodfalls Brook, and third place at the end of day one is occupied by 39 year old veterinary surgeon, Jo Hales, and her homebred mare Dawn Chorus on a score of 25.8 penalties.
Heidi Reed, from Haslemere, Surrey, maintains her lunch time lead in the BE90 Championship on her own 13 year old gelding Ilar Vincent. The 2019 Mitsubishi Motors Cup debutants produced an impressive score of 22.6 penalties to sit 1.7 penalties ahead of second placed Laura Greenhalgh and Sarah Reeve’s 14 year old gelding Stanhopes Travelling Man, with their score of 24.3 penalties.
Completing the top three, Georgie Toole and her own 14 year old gelding Kissemmie Midnight Magic head in to tomorrow’s jumping phases on a score of 25.9 penalties.
Tomorrow will see the remaining BE90 and BE100 riders take to the dressage arenas in the morning, with show jumping starting at 8.30am followed by the cross country at 9.30am.
